Original etching/engraving on a verge type handlaid watermarked paper. on paper.
Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 25.8 x 22 cm. The image size is ca. 12.5 x 17 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 11.8 x 8.7 inch. The image size is ca. 4.9 x 6.7 inch.
Pl. 5: ‘Figuuren van Hooi en Stengels.’ (Cuts of hay and other stems.) This plate shows 9 cross sections of stems and branches of hay, wine, hemp, reed, a rose branch, trees etc. This old antique engraved copperplate print originates from ‘Katechismus der Natuur’ published in 1779 in amsterdam by J. Allart. This popular work was used in schools in The Netherlands until the 20th century.Artists and Engravers: Johannes Florentius Martinet (1729 – 1795), Dutch historian, writer, theologian.
Condition: Very good. Original folds. Small stain in middle of print. Light brown offsetting from colors on opposite pages, as is common. General age-related toning and occasional minor defects from handling. Please study image/scan carefully.
