Antiphonarium ad usum Sanctae Ecclesiae Trecensis Pars Prima [1752]

Antiphonarium Trecensis. Antiphonary of the Roman Catholic church, specifically designed for use in the Diocese of Troyes in France.
An Antiphonary is one of the liturgical books intended for use in the liturgical choir. It is originally characterized, as the name implies, by the assignment to it of the antiphons used in various parts of the Roman liturgy.

Large folio, 664, [ii] pp. With printed music (letterpress) throughout. See image for an example page. Additionally decorated with a few vignettes and a wood engraved vignette on the title page.
Bound in studry full leather with blindstamped decoration on front and rear boards. 6 raised bands on the spine. Two studs on the front cover for use with the leather straps for closing the book. Traces of former metal cornerpieces. The studs and straps quite crudely attached using metal nails.

While the title page states 1752 (MDCCLII) as the title page, the final page bears an inscription dating this book to 1790: “Fait et corrigé par moi george labreuveux chez mr. Auelle et fin septembre 1790. G.L.”. The corrections can be found throughout, for example on 524/525 where small strips of paper with manuscript writing/musical notation are pasted over the printed page, presumably to correct printing mistakes.

Cover in fair condition: the leather damaged in places, one of the straps separated (but present). Metalwork on the corners and straps missing. Top of the spine damaged, tail of the spine worn. Boards scuffed. The top stud on the front cover caused small holes in the first few pages. Margin edges soiled, creased and faintly dampstained. Not the best, but a complete and quite sturdy copy.
