The Amateur Collector Excited
Antique handcoloureed etching by V. Augier-Gault, titled: ‘L’Amateur de Tableaux en Extase’ (The amateur collector excited.) A French amateur art collector gets excited over a painting offered to him by a shabby dealer. Any further input appreciated.
Etching with original hand colouring on wove paper.
Sheet size: 27,5 x 38 cm. Image size: 23 x 30 cm.
Published by Gault, Paris c. 1830.
Made by V. Augier (monogram VA) after an anonymous artist. V. Augier (c.1780-1834).
Condition: Good, given age. Ghosting from previous matting. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
