46 Views of Paris – Notre Dame [Gabriel Perelle, c. 1670]

Set of 46 views of Paris, it’s building, parks, Palaces, Museums, Seine etc.

Etchings / engravings by Gabriel Perelle (1603-1677) and his sons Nicolas Perelle (b.1631) and Adam Perelle (1638-1695).

These plates were published as part of a large series of views of mostly France: ‘ Veues des belles maisons de France.’, published by the Langlois and Mariette families of publishers from 1650 into the 18th. c. The content of this work varies. This set has several plates which carry the Nicolas Langlois address (1640-1703) but also include plates with manuscript titling. This, the lack of a title page and the paper point to a 17th. c. ed. Worldwide there is only one set of this magnificent series offered: a 1703 ed. with aparently all plates carrying the Langlois printed address offered at 48,000 usd). Clearly a scarse and valuable work. This is a fragment of this work, but in itself it appears to be the complete Paris section.

Size: sheet c. 38×29 cm.; plate sizes vary.

Condition: mostly very good; some creasing in some plates and some staining in some plates, which can be studied on the scans. General age related toning and small defects. Please study scans carefully.
