Noble Persan. Pretre Persan ou Mollah. Shah de Perse. Derviche Persan. – Four handcoloured plates of Persian figures (Persia is now known as Iran). A nobleman and the Shah, historical ruler of Iran. The other two prints show a Dervish, an ascetic monk, and a mullah, a local Muslim leader.

Handcoloured lithograph, heightened with Arabic gum on wove (vellin) paper.
Sheet size: 16,7 x 26,1 cm. (6,6 x 10,3 inch). Image size: 10 x 19 cm. (3,9 x 7,5 inch).

From the Asia volume of “Moeurs, Usages et Costumes de tous les Peuples de Monde” by Auguste Wahlen. This was published in Paris: Poiree, Pilout, Duterte and Martinon, 1844.

Made by an anonymous engraver after ‘Auguste Wahlen’. Author: Auguste Wahlen. Various artists are responsible for the illustrations, most notably Evrard Duverger, L. Markaert and R. King.

Condition: Good, given age. Faintly browned, and with some small stains. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
