‘Rajah. Groom in Calcutta. General des Gardes de l’Empereur.’

Handcoloured lithograph, heightened with Arabic gum on wove (vellin) paper.
Sheet size: 16,7 x 26,1 cm. (6,6 x 10,3 inch). Image size: 12 x 19 cm. (4,7 x 7,5 inch).

From the Asia volume of “Moeurs, Usages et Costumes de tous les Peuples de Monde” by Auguste Wahlen. This was published in Paris: Poiree, Pilout, Duterte and Martinon, 1844.

Made by an anonymous engraver after ‘Auguste Wahlen’. Author: Auguste Wahlen. Various artists are responsible for the illustrations, most notably Evrard Duverger, L. Markaert and R. King.

Condition: Good, given age. Faintly browned, and with some small stains. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
