“L’Art de la Guerre. Ch IV – Ch IV – CH VI” – These prints show the art of warmaking. In plate 1V we see a commander pointing in the direction where canons are shooting. A group of infantery is passing by. The plate V shows a convoy of soldiers entering a city. In the foreground a soldier embraces another soldier. On the right a bag carrier. In plate VI we see a man been captured grapped by the arms of two soldiers bringing him to a commander on horseback. In the background lots of soldiers and clouds of firing.

Sheet size: 11,7 x 20 cm. (4,6 x 7,9 inch). Image size: 8 x 13,5 cm. (3,1 x 5,3 inch).

This attractive prints were published in a book “Les travaux de Mars ou l’art de guerre”, by Alain Manesson Mallet first published in1696.

Made by ‘Simon Fokke’ after an anonymous artist. Simon Fokke (1712?1784) was a Dutch designer, etcher, and engraver. Born in Amsterdam, he was a pupil of J. C. Philips.

Condition: Good, given age. Stains in margin and in reverse slight imprint of page underneath. Plate 1V has a crinkle in lower right corner. Plate V has a crease in lower left corner. Plate VI creases in 3 corners. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
