“L’Art de la Guerre. Ch I en Ch II” – These prints show the art of warmaking. In plate 1 a harnassed man is crowned with a laurel wreath by an angel. The second plate shows a god of war, like Mars or Ares, flying above a city holding a torch in one hand and a torn scroll in the other. Dark clouds behind him and a face like thunder.

Sheet size: 12,7 x 19,4 cm. (5 x 7,6 inch). Image size: 8 x 13,5 cm. (3,1 x 5,3 inch).

This attractive prints were published in a book “Les travaux de Mars ou l’art de guerre”, by Alain Manesson Mallet first published in1696. State: 85 tekens. Deze titel is te lang!!!

Made by ‘Simon Fokke’ after an anonymous artist. Simon Fokke (1712?1784) was a Dutch designer, etcher, and engraver. Born in Amsterdam, he was a pupil of J. C. Philips.

Condition: Good, given age. Stains in margin. Plate 1 has a crinkle in lower left margin and small pieces of paper missing in lower corners in the reverse a triangle brown shape. Plate 2 has a fold in lower left corner. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
