“Mentor werpt Telemachus van een rots en springt bij hem”, “Venus daalt neder om Netunis (?)”, “Mentor spreekt Nestor van vrede in tegenwoordigheit van het leger” – These prints show three images of the Greek Telemachus. On the first print we see Mentor throwing Telemachus from a rock in the sea and jumping after him. Ships in the background. In the second print we see Venus coming down in a cloud with chariot praying Neptune to make thunder, so Telemachus won’t reach Ithaca. In the third picture we see Mentor speaking to Nestor about peace when the army can be seen in the background. Telemachus in Greek mythology, is the son of Odysseus and Penelope, who is a central character in Homer’s Odyssey. When Telemachus reached manhood, he visited Pylos and Sparta in search of his wandering father. On his return to Ithaca, he found that Odysseus had reached home before him from the Trojan war.
