aquatint, delicately printed in multiple colours and some hand colouring on hand laid (vergé) paper.
Sheet size: 29 x 39 cm. (11,4 x 15,4 inch). Image size: 25,3 x 34 cm. (10 x 13,4 inch).
Rare original ed. of these rare prints that mostly occur in photogravure. Plates have the original key holes for lining up the colour prints.
Made by ‘Philip Louis Debucourt’ after own design. Philip Louis Debucourt (1755-1832) was a French painter and engraver, student of Vien, active in Paris. He specialised in large very finely worked aquatints in multiple colours.
Condition: Good, given age. Light soiling and some foxing. Paper edges untrimmed on one plate, with some chipping and small tears. The Compliment plate has some paper loss in bottom left paper edge, backed. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
