‘L’Asie, dressee pour l’etude de la Geographie ?’

Etching / engraving with original hand colouring (coloured in the so-called Dutch way) on hand laid (verge) paper. Watermark: Fragment with countermark FIN..
Sheet size: 33 x 26,5 cm. (13 x 10,4 inch). Image size: 25,5 x 23 cm. (10 x 9,1 inch).

From an unidentified Atlas by Louis Brion de la Tour, published by Louis Charles Desnos in 1765, possibly a rare custom-ordered atlas. These maps lack the seperately printed border surrounding these maps typically. Most all ed. of these maps have a decorative border surrounding the maps. We have found this ed. to be scarse.

Made by an anonymous engraver after ‘Louis Brion de la Tour’. Publisher: Louis Charles Desnos (1725-1805), who was an important intrument & globe maker, cartographer and publisher in Paris. He worked with Zannoni and Louis Brion de la Tour (c.1743-1803), a French grographer and demographer.

Condition: Fair, given age. Original middle fold as issued. Light soiling, staining and some remains of watercolour spill. Slight paper separation at fold ends, backed. Small tear in top paper edge, backed. A few tiny pin holes. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
