Biography engraver: Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708) was a Dutch engraver, printmaker, caricaturist, and political satirist active in Amsterdam. He became famous for his elaborate allegorical and satirical prints that commented on European politics, particularly during the Franco-Dutch conflicts of the late seventeenth century. His prints were widely circulated and often served as propaganda supporting the Dutch Republic.
