BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Series: Stage sets of the new Amsterdam Schouwburg (1775-1777). Published by Johannes Smit & Son, Amsterdam.

Biography engraver: Reinier Vinkeles (1741-1816) was a Dutch draughtsman and engraver, renowned for stage designs, book illustrations, and reproductive prints. Harmanus Vinkeles (1762-1831), his son, was a prominent engraver known for historical and theatrical subjects.

Biography artist: Pieter Barbiers (I) (1749-1842) was a Dutch painter and stage designer, active as a decorator for the Amsterdam Schouwburg and noted for his architectural and theatrical compositions.
