BACKGROUND INFORMATION

After a drawing by H.W. Bunbury; engraved by P.W. Tomkins; published 1792.

Reference: Yale Center for British Art, inv. B1976.1.205.

Biography engraver: Peltro William Tomkins (c. 1760-1840) was a British engraver known for refined stipple engravings, often illustrating literary and theatrical scenes. Appointed engraver to Queen Charlotte.

Biography artist: Henry William Bunbury (1750-1811) was a British caricaturist and amateur artist known for humorous and theatrical scenes. His works were popular among printmakers in the late 18th century.
