Description

Medium: Stipple engraving with hand colouring on hand laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 54.2 x 42 cm (21.34 x 16.54 inch). Image size: 54.2 x 42 cm. (21.34 x 16.54 inch).

Condition: very good, given age. Light foxing, creasing and soiling. Trimmed to plate with some tiny tears in paper edges. Ghosting from previous matting. Remains of paper on rear from attachment. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Charles Knight (1743-c.1826) was a British engraver known for his stipple engravings and collaborations with leading artists of his time.

Biography artist: Henry William Bunbury (1750-1811) was a British caricaturist and amateur draughtsman best known for humorous and theatrical subjects, often reproduced in popular engravings.
