Biography engraver: Abraham Delfos (1731-1820) was a Dutch engraver, printmaker, and art dealer from Leiden. He was trained by Jan Wandelaar and became the director of the Leiden Drawing Academy in 1761. Delfos specialized in landscape and city views, many of which were based on drawings by prominent artists like Jan de Beijer. He was also involved in the auctioning and trading of artworks in the late 18th century.
Biography artist: Jan de Beijer (1703-c.1780) was a Dutch draughtsman and painter best known for his topographical drawings of towns, buildings, and landscapes in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. He worked as a traveling artist, capturing cityscapes and countryside views, which were later engraved and published in atlases and historical books. His drawings were widely used for printed illustrations, including this Leiden view.
