Plate, page 314: “Manier van leven en Gods-dienst der Hottentots, op Cabo de Bona Esperance” (Way of life and religion of the Hottentots, on Cape of Good Hope). It shows two persons practicing divination in entrails, another man eating entrails, several figures dancing in a cave, and some related figures. This original engraving originates from: ‘Spiegel der Sibyllen, van Vierderley Vertooningen [etc.]’, by Johannes Aysma et al, published in 1685 in Amsterdam. (transl.: Mirror of sibyls / prophetess, of fourfold display.)Artists and Engravers: Artist and Engraver: Coenraet Decker (ca. 1650-1685) was a Dutch Golden Age engraver, and pupil of Romeyn de Hooghe.

Condition: Excellent given age. Original middle fold, paper loss repair to the bottom margin. General age related toning and light staining/thumbing. Please study scan carefully.
