Plate: This plate shows a portrait of Fran�ois VI, Duc de La Rochefoucauld, Prince de Marcillac (1613 – 1680). He was a noted French author of maxims and memoirs. This old antique print originates from: ‘Dictionnaire des graveurs anciens et modernes depuis l’origine de la gravure, avec une notice des principales estampes qu’ils ont grav�es : suivi du Catalogue des �uvres de Jacques Jordans et de Corneille Visscher, Paris, 1767, in-8 . re-edition, 1789. This work contains many original plates as well as some plates copied by Basan after others.Artists and Engravers: This plate by Pierre Philippe Choffard (Paris 1730-1809), French miniature engraver after an enamel painting by Jean I Petitot (1607-1691). Author: Pierre-Francois Basan (Paris 1723-1797) is a French engraver. He was a pupil of Etienne Fessard and Jean Daulle. He was principally occupied as a printseller, and published a ‘Dictionnaire des Graveurs’ in 1789.

Condition: Good. General age-related toning. Light staining. Please study scan carefully.
