Plate : ‘Everhardus Reidanus Comitus Guilhelmi Nassouy Consiliarus Obyt 1602.’ With a poem: ‘Consilio multis patriam’ This plate shows a portrait of Everhardus Reidanus / Everhart van Reidt (Deventer 1550-1602). Van Reidt was a Dutch writer and military advisor, lawyer in Arnhem, Mayor, Deputee for Gelre and Zutphen, Council and secret writer for Count Willem Lodewijk van Nassau. He is the author of ‘Oorspronck ende Voortgank vande Nederlandsche Oorloghen.’, ‘Leven van Willem I.’ and ‘Historie Belgica.’ Rare print from a reknown mannerist engraver. Muller (1571-1628). Poem by J. J. Pontanus. Jan Harmensz. Muller (1571-1628) was a reknown Dutch manierist engraver, draughtsman and painter. He was the eldest son of Harmen Jansz. Muller (1540-1617), the Amsterdam book printer, engraver and publisher. The family business, called De Vergulde Passer (‘The gilded compasses’), was situated in Warmoesstraat, and Jan Muller worked there for many years. He may have been apprenticed to Hendrik Goltzius in Haarlem. Between 1594 and 1602 he is thought to have gone to Italy, where he stayed in Rome and Naples. His work can be found in major museums worldwide.

Condition: Good. General age-related toning. Light staining and soiling, mainly in the margins. Image in good condition but with small tears in the paper edges, particularly in the top left area. Sheet attached to carrier sheet. Please study scan carefully.
