Description

Saint Palemon / Palemonis / Pachonius, hermit.

This engraving represents the Palestinian Hermit Palemon / Palemonis / Pachonius, while reading the Bible and at work spinning and weaving in a cabin.

Engraving on hand laid (verge type) paper.
Sheet size: 20,7 x 15,2 cm. Image size: 20,5 x 15,4 cm.

Copy in reverse after plate 4 from the series: ‘Trophæum Vitæ Solitariæ …’, published in 1598. This plate c. 1610. Made by  an anonymous engraver after the engraving by Raphael Sadeler after Maerten de Vos.

Condition: Very good, given age. Remains of previous attachment at top. Small tear at top, not effecting image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
