‘VERSO INSCRIPTION: “DOCTOR REDI”‘

– Half-length portrait of a man with long curly hair (Francesco Redi), facing slightly right, wearing a cravat and cloak. A desk and books faintly visible to the right background. Executed in red and black chalks. Francesco Redi (1626 – 1697) was an Italian physician, naturalist, biologist, and poet. He is referred to as the “founder of experimental biology”, and as the “father of modern parasitology”. (source wikipedia)

Medium: Upclutch of drawing on hand laid (verge), Italian paper. Watermark: Large Knights Templar’s coat of arms with “In hoc signo vinces” (In this sign thou shalt conquer) motto.

Sheet size: 26 x 37 cm (10.24 x 14.57 inch). Image size: 26 x 37 cm. (10.24 x 14.57 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Paper shows foxing, discoloration, and handling wear; faded colors but image still legible. Trimmed edges. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
