Etching on hand laid (verge) paper. Watermark: Coat of arms with Strasbourg Lily (Churchill 406), to be dated c.1733. on paper.

Antique print, titled: ‘Iunius.’ – (June.) Wooded rural town view with resting shephards and a bridge crossing a river in the distance. This scene actually depicts a view from Ouderkerk towards Abcoude along the Amstel river (‘Ouwerkerk nae Apkou toe’). With the cancer zodiac sign at top middle. From a series of 12 prints depicting the months of the year. Originally published in 1618. This is a later ed. c. 1720-1740. State: Only state. Ref: Series: Hollstein Dutch 34-45. Provenance: Monogram inelligible: HV?Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Jan van de Velde II’ after own design. Jan van de Velde II (1593-1641) came from the southern Netherlands as a fugitive around 1600 to the Netherlands. His father was a writingmaster and Jan trained as an etcher. He produced many highly important series of landscape prints.

Condition: Good, given age. Light creasing. Remains of paper from previous attachment on rear. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
