Description
This extremely rare print shows a younger woman with a bird, apparantly a parrot, on her hand and an older lady is holding a finger against her mouth. The sense feeling is meant here. From a series of six on the five senses entitled ‘Quinque Sensuum Figurae’. German moralistic text and latin titel around the print.

This attractive print was first published in Cologne 1590. This is a later impression.

Biography engraver: Crispijn van de Passe de Oude (ca. 1565-1637) was a Dutch engraver, draftsman, and print publisher. He was the progenitor of a family of internationally active and renowned engravers. Van de Passe made portraits of European royalty and nobles, and other prominent figures such as Pope Paul V and the Dutchmen Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, Aernout van Buchel, and Maarten Tromp.
