Made by ‘Theodor Matham’ after ‘Simon de Vlieger’. Theodoor (Dirk) Matham (1605-1676) spent several years in Paris. He was active as engraver and artdealer/agent. Simon Jacobsz. de Vlieger (ca. 1601-1653) was a painter of marine landscapes and portraits and etcher. He worked in Delft and Amsterdam. He was a student of Willem van de Velde the elder and possibly Jan and Julius Porcellis. He is seen as the teacher of Willem van de velde the Younger, Jan van de Capelle and Hendrick Dubbels.
Condition: Good, given age. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
