Depicts the Parable of the Tenants and the Vineyard (Luke 20:9-19), where servants sent by the vineyard owner are mistreated by tenants.

Made by Jan Collaert I after Frans Francken I.

Medium: Engraving on hand laid (verge) paper. Watermark: Small coat of arms, located at middle right.

Sheet size: 29 x 23.3 cm (11.42 x 9.17 inch). Image size: 28 x 22 cm. (11.02 x 8.66 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Small triangular hole in the image at a man’s arm, backed and retouched with ink. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Provenance: Contains unidentified collector’s mark on verso (‘vS’ intertwined with a branch). Manuscript numbering on rear left top: ‘J.X.3.’.

Biography engraver: Jan Collaert I (c.1525-1580), a renowned Flemish engraver, was part of a prominent family of printmakers in Antwerp.

Biography artist: Frans Francken I (1542-1616), a Flemish painter and draughtsman, known for his historical and biblical scenes.
