Margarita Austriaca Ducissa Parmae (…) – Portrait of Margaret of Parma (Italian: Margherita di Parma; 5 July 1522 – 18 January 1586), Governor of the Netherlands from 1559 to 1567 and from 1578 to 1582. She was the illegitimate daughter of the then 22-year-old Holy Roman Emperor Charles V and Johanna Maria van der Gheynst. She was a Duchess of Florence and a Duchess of Parma and Piacenza by marriage.

From: ‘La Grande Chronique’ by Jean Francois le Petit, published 1601.

Made by ‘Christoffel van Sichem’ after an anonymous artist. Christoffel van Sichem I (1546-1624) was active as printmaker/publisher in Amsterdam and Leiden. He spent some years in Antwerp. Christoffel and his brother Karel van Sichem (1575-1604) were both active as graphic artists. They fled from the Southern Netherlands to the Northern Netherlands in the end of the sixteenth century. He was the father of Christoffel van Sichem II (1581-1658).

Condition: Very good, given age. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
