This scarce original antique print shows a portrait of Philippe(s) de Montespedon, Princess of La Roche-sur-Yon, Dame de Chemillé and Dame de Beaupreau (d. 1578), a French princess and courtier. She was Première dame d’honneur to the queen dowager regent of France, Catherine de’ Medici, from 1561 until 1578. Auto-lithographed from the originals at Castle Howard, Yorkshire.

Made by Lord Ronald Gower after Francois Clouet. Lord Ronald Charles Sutherland-Leveson-Gower (2 August 1845 – 9 March 1916), known as Lord Ronald Gower, was a Scottish Liberal politician, sculptor and writer from the Leveson-Gower family. Francois Clouet (c. 1510-1572), son of Jean Clouet, was a French Renaissance miniaturist and painter, particularly known for his detailed portraits of the French ruling family.

Condition: Very good, given age. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
