58. – This original antique print shows a statue of a reclining Pan on a rock, holding a pan flute in his left hand; there is a bunch of grapes at his left leg; after a sculpture attributed to Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli. This statue of a reclining Pan, attributes to Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli, is now in the City Art Museum in St. Louis. The statue was depicted from two different angles, each on separate plate. The etchings show the statue in reverse, each depicts a different number of grapes, neither of which tallies with the current state. Both etchings are after drawings by Poelenburgh, but neither these, nor any intermediary drawings have come to light. These works are not included in De Bisschop’s list of contents and locations. According to his ‘Addres to the Spectator’, this ought to mean that he did not know what or where it was. (ref: British Museum)
