This hand coloured optical print very decorative view of the illuminations of the street Feronnerie on the St Denis side in Paris on the occasion of the happy Convalescence of His Majesty in 1745, France.
Made by an anonymous engraver after Laurent Pierrein Lahaussee.
Medium: Engraving / hand coloured on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 44.5 x 30 cm (17.52 x 11.81 inch). Image size: 41 x 28.5 cm. (16.14 x 11.22 inch).
Condition: good, given age. Mounted on cardboard and thin paper. Holes to see illuminations. French text in pen and Dutch translation on reverse. Tears in thin paper restored. Smudges. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This attractive print was published by Jean Francois Daumont (1717-1768), Paris, France, 1770. This is an optical print, also called ‘vue optique’ or ‘vue d’optique’, which were made to be viewed through a Zograscope, or other devices of convex lens and mirrors, all of which produced an optical illusion of depth.
Biography artist: Daumont was a well-known publisher of optical prints, established in Paris. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries there were many popular speciality establishments in Paris, Augsburg and London which produced optical viewing devices and special engravings to be viewed through them.
