Made by Edward Duncan after Henry Alken. Edward Duncan (1803-1882) was a British master painter, best known for his watercolours of coastal views. He was initailly apprenticed to Robert Havell, the principal aquatint engraver for Audubon’s Birds of America. By studying the works of Havell’s brother William, Duncan developed a taste for watercolour painting and drawing. Henry Thomas Alken (1785-1851) was an English painter and engraver, mainly known as an illustrator and caricaturist of sporting and hunting subjects.
