Handcoloured aquatint etching on wove (vellin) paper.
Sheet size: 21 x 14,1 cm. Image size: 17 x 12,3 cm.

Published in London, dated 1851

Made by Edward Duncan after Henry Alken. Edward Duncan (1803-1882) was a British master painter, best known for his watercolours of coastal views. He was initailly apprenticed to Robert Havell, the principal aquatint engraver for Audubon’s Birds of America. By studying the works of Havell’s brother William, Duncan developed a taste for watercolour painting and drawing. Henry Thomas Alken (1785-1851) was an English painter and engraver, mainly known as an illustrator and caricaturist of sporting and hunting subjects.

Condition: Good, given age. Light staining in the margins General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
