Etching and engraving on hand laid (verge) paper. Watermark: 7-Pointed fools cap.
Sheet size: 31 x 22 cm. Image size: 24 x 19,2 cm.

This plate originates from: ‘Algemeene Wereldt-Beschryving …’ by A.P de Lacroix, translated and enlarged by S. de Vries, published in 3 volumes by Francois Halma, Amsterdam, 1705. After the original French ed. first published in 1690: ‘Nouvelle Methode pour apprendre facilement la Geographie universelle…’, which was then translated into German and improved by Hieronymus Dicelius / Ditzel before de Vries prepared the Dutch ed. This work is scarse. Ref: Tiele 625; Sabin 3805.

Made by an anonymous engraver after A. Pherotee de Lacroix. A. Pherotee de Lacroix was a geographer for the King of France. Author: Simon de Vries (Dutch 1524-1708): Poet, writer and translator, publisher, active in Utrecht. Publisher: Francois Halma (1653-1722), Dutch.

Condition: Very good, given age. Light soiling, mostly in margins. Minimal staining. Original middle fold as issued. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
