Tank van Sirquees met de Begraaffenis der drie laatste Koningen van Guseratte, van den eenen kant van binnen te zien – This scarce original antique print depicts a water tank of Sirquees/Sarkhej with the graves of the three last kings of Gujarat, India. This print shows the artificial water reservoir of Sarkhej, here identified as the tomb of Sultan Ahmed and Shaikh Ahmad Khattri. Sarkhej is now a neighbourhood of Ahmedabad.

Sheet size: 20,8 x 33 cm. Image size: 17,5 x 27,5 cm.

From the monumental work by François Valentyn: “Oud en nieuw Oost-Indiën, vervattende een naaukeurige en uitvoerige verhandelinge van Nederlands mogentheyd in die gewesten”. Dordrecht/Amsterdam: J. van Braam en G. onder de Linden, 1724/1726. (Transl.: Old and new East-Indies, including an accurate and extensive description of Dutch / VOC controlled territories.)

Made by an anonymous engraver after Valentijn.

Condition: Good, given age. Some small spots. A few tiny worm holes. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
