Published in Amsterdam by Maaskamp in 1805. Provenance: Unclear collection mark / stamp with letter C.
Made by C.H. Hodges after Pieter Paul Rubens. Charles Howard Hodges (1764-1837) was an English painter and engraver. He was probably a student of John Raphael Smith. He worked in Amsterdam and was a very famous portrait painter around 1800. His mezzotint engravings are of very high quality. Pieter Paul Rubens (Flemish; 1577-1640).
Condition: Very good, given age. Very nice impression of the full plate withe narrow margins. Some foxing, mostly visible in margins. Small tear in bottem left paper edge, not effecting image. Some rubbing of margins from previous attachment or framing. Slight remargining of top middle margin, barely visible and not effecting plate. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
