Jesu (…) – This very scarce original antique print (frontispiece of this work) depicts an allegory showing a Chinese Emperor and a Jesuit father helped by a putto holding up a map of China. In the bottom right corner various scientific instruments of the 17th century. Above Jesuits and more putti.

Sheet size: 24,5 x 37,5 cm. Image size: 22,5 x 34,5 cm.

From: ‘Toonneel van China (…)’, by Athanasius Kircherus (Kircher) ed. published in Amsterdam 1667.

Made by an anonymous engraver after Athanasius Kircher.

Condition: Good, given age. Edges with a few tiny tears, not affecting image. Small printer’s crease right edge. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
