The Buginese people are an ethnic group – the most numerous of the three major linguistic and ethnic groups of South Sulawesi, in the southwestern province of Sulawesi, third largest island of Indonesia. The Ambonese, also known as South Moluccans, are an Indonesian ethnic group of mixed Austronesian-Papuan origin.

Sheet size: 20 x 31,5 cm. Image size: 17 x 28,5 cm.

From the monumental work by François Valentyn: “Oud en nieuw Oost-Indiën, vervattende een naaukeurige en uitvoerige verhandelinge van Nederlands mogentheyd in die gewesten”. Dordrecht/Amsterdam: J. van Braam en G. onder de Linden, 1724/1726. (Transl.: Old and new East-Indies, including an accurate and extensive description of Dutch / VOC controlled territories.)

Made by an anonymous engraver after Francois Valentijn / VOC sources.

Condition: Very good, given age. A few tiny spots. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
