Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 14.7 x 22.3 cm. The image size is ca. 8.6 x 8.3 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 5.8 x 8.8 inch. The image size is ca. 3.4 x 3.3 inch.
Antique print, titled: ‘Vierde Deel.’ – Title page for the fourth volume of the described work. It shows a classical female figure resting on a rock beside a fire, in a winter landscape. “De mensch, zoo als hij voorkomt op den bekenden aardbol”, 1st ed. in 6 parts, published by Johannes Allart, Amsterdam, 1802-1807. This famous anthropological work was ‘the first Dutch treatise on geographical anthropology… Quite a few plates are after the travel accounts of Captain Cook, La Perouse, Carver, Levaillant, etc…’ (Landwehr). The author of this work is Martinus Stuart (Dutch preacher/historian, 1765-1826).Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Louis Portman’ after ‘Jacques Kuyper’.
Condition: Very good, given age. Left edge uneven and with binding holes (original). An old library collection ink stamp in the right edge of the image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
