BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This print was published in a Dutch ed. of ‘Historische Chronik …’, first published in 1631.

Biography engraver: Matthaus Merian der Altere (1593-1650) was a Swiss-born engraver who worked in Frankfurt for most of his career, where he also ran a publishing house.

Biography artist: Author/publisher: Johann Ludwig Gottfried (1584-1633).
