Description
This print shows a view on the Dutch fleet in june 1667 bringing a devastating defeat by the Royal Navy during the famous Journey to Chatham. A Dutch fleet sailed up the Medway and destroyed several English warships. In addition, the flagship Royal Charles was taken as plunder. For the republican government of Johan de Witt, the Journey to Chatham was an unprecedented triumph, but for the English King Charles II it was a deep humiliation.
