Etching / engraving on hand laid (vergé) paper. Watermark: unclear watermark.
Sheet size: 26,8 x 17,7 cm. (10,6 x 7 inch). Image size: 25 x 15,7 cm. (9,8 x 6,2 inch).
Engraved by Joh.Stridbeck junior, the plates where published by Hans Georg Bodenehr, and acquired by the latter after the death of Stridbeck Sr. in 1717. The name “Joh.Stridbeck junior” is than replaced by Bodenehr. This print originates from: From: “Atlas Curieux oder Neuer und Compendieuser Atlas” by Gabriel Bodenehr. First published Augsburg: Bodenehr, 1704. Kilian later published this plan in his ‘Kleiner Atlas’ (1757).
Made by ‘Johann Stridbeck junior’ after an anonymous artist. Gabriel Bodenehr, a German map maker and member of a famous engraver and publisher family of Augsburg, was born 1673. His main work was “Atlas Curieux” first published 1704.
Condition: Very good, given age. Light foxing. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
