‘TOBIAS AND HIS MIRACULOUS FISH (..).’

– Original antique print illustrating a biblical scene from Tobias 6; Tobias goes on a journey with his dog and a hired guide who is secretly the Archangel Raphael. While washing his feet in the Tigris River, a giant fish tries to devour him. Following Raphael’s orders, Tobias catches the fish and preserves its miraculous organs for later use.

Biography engraver: Abraham de Blois (active 1679-1720), Dutch Engraver and mezzotinter.

Biography artist: Bernard Picart (1673-1733) was a French painter and engraver. He received his art education from his father, Etienne (1632-1721), from Le Brun and Jouvenet at the Royal Academy. His talents developed rapidly: at the age of sixteen he gained honors at the Academy of Paris. His prints in the ‘French’ taste were very popular. His way of working was also very influential for the book illustration in the Netherlands. Pieter de Hondt, Dutch publisher and bookseller (1696–1764).
