BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Title engraving for: Isaac de Larrey: ‘Histoire d’Angleterre’. Rotterdam: Caspar Fritsch, 1713.

Biography engraver: Gilliam van der Gouwen (ca. 1657?1716) was a Dutch engraver known for his detailed and theatrical compositions. He worked in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, often producing title pages and book illustrations.

Biography artist: Bernard Picart (1673?1733) was a French engraver active in the Netherlands. He collaborated with publishers and artists to create allegorical and historical prints. Simon Thomassin (1655?1733) was a French draughtsman and engraver, known for designing grand historical and allegorical scenes.
