Original antique print, titled: ‘Le Tems Decouvre les Talents’. It is numbered t. II, p. 181. It shows: Grandfather Time seated on a cloud, holding up a long scroll with writing (his scythe in the other hand). Seated at his feet is an angelic female figure copying lines from his scroll into a book. At their feet are a number of putti with various objects (globe, mirror, money). This original print originates from a work by Basan: ‘Dictionnaire des graveurs anciens et modernes depuis l’origine de la gravure’, published in Paris in 1767, and again in 1789. This work contained numerous engravings, some of which were copies made by Basan, others original plates.. It was published by Basan in 1767.Artists and Engravers: Artist: Charles Nicolas Cochin. Engraver: Pierre Soubeyran. Published by: Basan, in 1767. Pierre Soubeyran (Geneve 1709-1775) was a Swiss engraver. After his studies under Georg Friedrich Schmidt in Paris, he soon established himself as a skilled engraver, and furthered the progress of colour printing. Pierre-Francois Basan (Paris 1723-1797) is a French engraver. He was a pupil of Etienne Fessard and Jean Daulle. He was principally occupied as a printseller, and published a ‘Dictionnaire des Graveurs’ in 1767.

Condition: Very good, given age. Margins stained. General age-related light toning and/or staining from handling. Please study scan carefully
