Original antique print showing Three Kings Island, a group of thirteen uninhabited islands about 55 km northwest of Cape Reinga, the northernmost point of New Zealand’s North Island. in the background, with two Maori standing on top, brandishing weapons. In the foreground are the ships of Abel Tasman, the Heemskerck and the Zeehaen.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This attractive print was published in 1758 by De Hondt, The Hague. Early engravings from Antoine Francois Prevost: Histoire Generale des Voyages. Vol. 16. These are illustrations were previously published by Francois Valentijn in 1726.
Biography engraver: Jakob van der Schley (1715-1779) was a Dutch draughtsman and engraver, who mostly did portrait engravings and frontispieces for books throughout his career.
