Condition: good, given age. Light creasing. Small tear in paper edges, not effecting the image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This old antique print originates from: ‘Abbildungen zu Oken’s allgemeiner Naturgeschichte fur alle Stande’, published by Hoffmann’sche Verlags-Buchhandlung in Stuttgart, Germany 1833 ? 1841.

Biography artist: Lorenz Oken (1779-1851), was a German transcendental naturalist, philosopher & physician. Born Okenfuss, the son of a farmer, he simplified his name to Oken while at medical school in Freiburg, Bavaria. Oken was a prolific & vocal writer, lecturer and theorist, publishing many philosophical treatises during his life. His masterpiece and lasting legacy to the world is the 13-volume ‘Naturgeschichte fur alle Stande’ (Natural History for all Social Ranks), first published between 1833 and 1841. This plate engraved by Pfister.
