– Original antique print showing clubfoot deformities and historical surgical correction techniques. Deformity Depiction: The figures show various angles and degrees of talipes equinovarus, commonly known as clubfoot, a condition where the foot is twisted inward and downward. Surgical Interventions: Several panels illustrate hands demonstrating examinations of the sole and heel, as well as early tenotomy procedures (surgical cutting of tightened tendons, such as the Achilles tendon) using fine pointed instruments.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This attractive original old antique print / plate originates from: ‘Traite complet de l’anatomie de l’homme, comprenant la medicine operatoire., volume 7′, by Jean Marc Bourgery, published in Paris by C.A. Delaunay, 1831-54. The detailed illustrations of anatomy and surgery in this work are considered unsurpassed! Each plate comes with the corresponding print index.

Biography artist: Author: Jean Baptiste Marc Bourgery (1797-1849). The artist who directed the massive program of prosection, and who was responsible for 512 of the spectacular illustrations, was Nicholas-Henri Jacob (1782-1871) a student of the neo-classical painter of the French Revolution, Jacques-Louis David.
