– Original antique print showing urinary tract pathology, specifically bladder and prostatic calculi (stones). Fig. 1 & 2 (Left and Right): Cross-sections of a severely thickened and diseased human urinary bladder wall, displaying large, rough calculi (bladder stones) embedded directly inside the cavity. Fig. 3 (Top): A superior/cross-sectional view looking down into the neck or opening of a bladder altered by chronic inflammation and stone formation. Fig. 5 (Bottom Center): A coronal dissection of the penis, urethra, and prostate gland. The open prostatic portion of the urethra reveals multiple small, dark pocketed calculi (prostatic stones) embedded inside the tissue walls. Fig. 4 & 6 (Small inserts): Detailed views of isolated, extracted urinary calculi showing their typical nodular, irregular texture and composition.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This attractive original old antique print / plate originates from: ‘Traite complet de l’anatomie de l’homme, comprenant la medicine operatoire., volume 7′, by Jean Marc Bourgery, published in Paris by C.A. Delaunay, 1831-54. The detailed illustrations of anatomy and surgery in this work are considered unsurpassed! Each plate comes with the corresponding print index.

Biography artist: Author: Jean Baptiste Marc Bourgery (1797-1849). The artist who directed the massive program of prosection, and who was responsible for 512 of the spectacular illustrations, was Nicholas-Henri Jacob (1782-1871) a student of the neo-classical painter of the French Revolution, Jacques-Louis David.
