This rare print shows a satire on the world of finance. It features a caricature of the Scottish economist John Law and the Windhandel. The failure of Law’s Mississippi Company led to the French national bankruptcy in 1720.

Condition: fair, given age. Folds horizontal and vertical and in 3 corners. Smudges. Stains on reverse. Pencil remarks in right lower corner. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This attractive print was published in “Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid, vertoonende de opkomst, voortgang en ondergang der Actie, Bubbel en Windnegotie, in Vrankryk, Engeland, en de Nederlanden, gepleegt in den Jaare MDCCXX”, Amsterdam, 1720. ‘The Great Mirror of Folly’, which is actually a collection on all printsmaps and text, published in 1720, satirizing the Englishman John Law, his Mississippi Company, and the international land and trading speculation in worthless shares of the South Sea Bubble of 1719-1720, which resulted in an international scandal.
