Plate: ‘Solemnitas.’ (Solemnity.) Solemnity is taken from the Latin sollemnitas, a term of uncertain origin but possibly derived from sollus (whole) and annus (year), indicating a celebration occurring at yearly intervals. The Church always celebrates each solemnity every year. On this plate people with attributes and musical instruments. This scarse original old antique print / engraving / etching originates from: ‘Museum Odescalchum, sive Thesaurus … Christina Suecurum regina ….’, by Niccolo Galeotti / Pietro Santo Bartoli, Rome, Italy, 1751-1752. This is the former gem collection of queen Christina of Sweden, then kept in the collection of the Odescalchi family in Rome.Artists and Engravers: The author / commentary to this work is Niccolo Galeotti (1692-1758). This engraving is engraved by the Perugia, Italy born Pietro Santo Bartoli (1635-1700). He was a student of the French artist Poussin. His nickname was Perugino. He was antiquarian to both the Queen Christina and Benedetto Odescalchi (1611-1689), who became Pope in 1676 under the name of Innocent XI.
