Night scene with the queen dressed in black at centre and greeted by five cavaliers at centre, the female personification of France in armour behind her, one of the queen’s maids descending a ladder at left, the Castle of Blois beyond, Night and Dawn hovering as winged personifications above. This original antique print originates from ‘Musee du Louvre. Galerie de Rubens dite du Luxembourg composee des vingt-quatre tableaux de la vie de Marie de Medicis graves sur acier par les premiers artistes …’, with text by S. de Saint-Planchez, published in Paris c. 1873 by Gustave Guerin (first published 1809).
