Antique print, titled: ‘Le Couronnement de la Reine’ – The Coronation of Maria de Medici. A bustling scene with the royal entourage and a contingent of church dignitaries (Cardinals). Source unknown, to be determined. Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Pierron & Duthee’ after ‘Peter Paul Rubens’. J. Duthe / Duthee (1788-1869) was a French publisher/printer and printmaker. Sir Peter Paul Rubens (1577 – 1640), a Flemish Baroque painter, and a proponent of an extravagant Baroque style that emphasized movement, colour, and sensuality. He is well known for his Counter-Reformation altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects.
Condition: Very good, given age. A small dampstain in the top margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
